Proposal: Demolition of social club and garage building (sui generis). Erection of single storey social club (sui generis) and erection of 3 storey building comprising of 3 no 2 bed apartments and 3 no 3 bed apartments (Class C3), 14 no. car parking spaces, 2 no. DDA car parking spaces, detached cycle store and refuse store with associated landscaping.
Location: Site of South Gosforth Social Club, Percy Terrace, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE3 1RS.
Applicant: Laburnum Mews Limited.
Following the consultation event held on the 21st October 2021 and subsequent pre-application consideration by the Planning Department of Newcastle City Council. A full planning application for the development has now been submitted to the City Council.
The proposed design would remove all of the existing social club structures on the site. In its place a new development would provide six high quality two-bed and three-bed apartments close to good public transport facilities and only 3km away from Newcastle City Centre. The scheme would include secure cycle provision and a number of sustainable features, whilst at the same time respecting the local vernacular of the immediate area.
A smaller social club facility will be built within the site to replace the former social club. This would provide more affordable modern accommodation for the social club, helping it to continue to serve the local area and maintaining the facility for a range of community uses.
