This scheme is part of the NE1 project for transforming the Bigg Market to create an economically viable area that is to become an attractive location for businesses, residents and visitors.
This scheme for the renewal of the frontage properties of 10-16, 18-24 Cloth Market (Listed Grade II*), for our client the Easteye Group Ltd. This is part of the successful bid to the Heritage Lottery fund by NE1 for this important part of the city. This area retains a significant proportion of the mediaeval structure amidst the nearby Dobson and Grainger Georgian New Town within the Central Conservation Area.
We have worked as part of the team to obtain planning and listed building consent approvals in partnership with NE1, Newcastle City Council and a team of professionals to prepare this scheme for the contractual work now completed for the frontage of these properties. The main contractor is “Historic Property Restoration Ltd”. The scheme is involved with the restoration of the frontage including the main roof areas of this group of properties. The main frontage and roof areas have been restored as a first stage in bringing the group of historic buildings back into active use.
